See in photos Demonstration against hijab in Iran: 31 killed in violent clashes, men along with women took to the streets

Protests against the hijab continue in Iran that began on 16 September. Along with women, men have also joined the protest. Now it has spread to 15 cities. Violent clashes are also taking place between the police and the protesters. The police opened fire to stop the agitating people. Three protesters were killed in firing on Thursday. The death toll has gone up to 31 in 5 days. Hundreds of people are injured.

The matter started on 13 September. Then the Moral Police of Iran arrested a 22-year-old girl Mehsa Amini for not wearing a hijab. His body was handed over to the family after 3 days i.e. on 16 September. The matter reached the people through social media and till now this dispute has claimed 31 lives.

Masha's father Amjad Amini said in a conversation with BBC – Police and government are only lying. I kept pleading in front of him to save my daughter's life. When I saw his dead body, it was completely covered. Only face and legs were visible. There were also injury marks on his feet.

How is Iran's Morality Police

In a conversation with CNN, Human Rights Watch officer Tara Cefari said – If you meet any common family or woman in Iran, they will tell what the moral police are like. They face this every day. According to Tara- This is a different police. It has legal power, weapons and its own prisons. Recently it has started 're-education centres'.

People who do not follow the hijab or other religious laws are kept in the detention centers. They are taught about the strict laws of Islam and the hijab. It is told why hijab is necessary. These prisoners have to sign an affidavit before release. It is written in it that they will follow the strict conditions of the affidavit.

Human Rights Watch's New York-based Hadi Ghamini says - Moral policing has become very strict since 2019. Thousands of its agents roam around in plain clothes too. Do not know how many women were arrested and put in jail, they were tortured.

The requirement for Iranian women to wear the hijab came into force after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Before that, Iran was quite independent in the matter of women's clothing under the rule of Shah Pahlavi. Here, the Supreme Court is hearing the petition of Muslim girls to wear hijab in India.

Women are once again on the streets of Iran. Tossing hijab in the air and shouting slogans against the religious police. The reason is the death of 22-year-old Mehsa Amini due to police beating. The only fault was that she was not wearing the hijab properly.

Demonstrations against police in the capital Tehran have erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody in Iran on September 16. After the death of Amini, a police officer responsible was suspended. In protest, women are not only cutting their own hair but also burning their hijabs.

President Ibrahim Raisi spoke to the family of Mahsa Amini on the phone on Sunday. He had said- Your daughter, I too have a daughter. I think this incident happened with someone of my relation. My sympathies are with you.
